Privacy policy.
CutGPT edits your videos on your own device, and we want you to know exactly what leaves it. This policy explains what that is, who receives it, and the choices you have.

Summary
This policy covers CutGPT's website, web app and iPhone app, which are run by CutGPT (“we” or “us”). The short version:
- Your web videos never leave your computer. The web app edits in your browser, stores your videos, transcripts and edits there, and never uploads them to us.
- On iPhone, editing happens on the phone. Speech recognition runs on the device. Audio goes to Apple's servers only if no on-device speech engine is available.
- A few things do go over the internet. The web app downloads its speech model from Hugging Face and runtime files from jsDelivr. Vercel, which hosts the site, keeps standard request logs and counts page visits. On iPhone, Apple sells subscriptions and Superwall runs the paywall.
- No advertising trackers. We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and can't identify you, and we don't sell your personal information.
- You're in control. Delete your web edits anytime in Settings, change iPhone permissions in your iPhone's Settings, and email support@example.com with any request.
- Web subscriptions are coming soon. When web subscriptions launch, Stripe will process payments, and you'll sign in with your email, which we'll use only for billing.
Information we collect
We built CutGPT to collect as little as possible. Here's what each part of CutGPT handles, where it's kept, and what, if anything, leaves your device. Separately, if you email us, we receive your email address and your message.
The web app
The web app runs entirely in your browser on your computer.
- Videos, transcripts and edits. Stored in your browser's storage (IndexedDB) on that computer. They're never uploaded to CutGPT. Exports are made on your computer, too.
- Camera and microphone. Only if you record a take in the web app. Your browser asks first, the camera is on only while the recorder is open, and the recording is saved in your browser like any other video. It's never uploaded.
- Settings. Your settings, such as cut pace and caption style, are stored in your browser's localStorage. Free edits are counted per browser.
- Speech model downloads. Speech recognition uses OpenAI's open-source Whisper model, running in your browser. Your browser downloads the model once from Hugging Face and caches it. ONNX Runtime files, which the model needs to run, load from the jsDelivr CDN. These are normal web requests, so Hugging Face and jsDelivr see your IP address and browser. No video or audio is sent.
- Request logs. Vercel, our hosting provider, serves the site and keeps standard request logs. As with any website, your requests include your IP address and browser information.
- Visit counts. Vercel Web Analytics counts page visits without cookies. With each page view, it records the page's address, the site that sent you there, your approximate location, and your device type, operating system and browser. It tells visits apart with a hash of the request that's discarded after 24 hours, so it can't identify you or follow you to other sites. Editor pages are counted without their edit IDs. There are no advertising trackers.
The iPhone app
The iPhone app is separate from the web app. Edits aren't synced between them.
- Camera and microphone. Used to record your videos.
- Photos (add-only). Used to save finished edits to your library. Add-only access lets CutGPT add videos to Photos, but not see what's already there.
- Speech recognition. Your videos are transcribed on your iPhone with Apple's on-device speech recognition. Only if no on-device engine is available does CutGPT fall back to Apple's speech recognition servers. In that case, audio is sent to Apple in chunks of under 50 seconds each, and Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Your edits. Stored on your iPhone.
- Subscriptions. Sold through Apple's App Store and billed by Apple.
- Paywall. The paywall is powered by Superwall, a subscription-paywall SDK built into the app. Superwall receives the device and usage information needed to show the paywall and check your subscription status.
Web subscriptions (coming soon)
- Email sign-in. You'll sign in with your email address. We'll use that account only for billing. It won't upload or sync your videos or edits.
- Payments. Stripe will process payments. The payment details you enter go to Stripe, under its own terms and privacy policy.
How we use information
We use information only to provide CutGPT:
- To edit your videos. Transcription, cuts, captions and export run on your device. In the web app, your video, audio and transcript are never sent to us. On iPhone, audio goes to Apple only if no on-device speech engine is available.
- To deliver the site and the web app's files. Vercel serves the site, Hugging Face serves the speech model, and jsDelivr serves runtime files. Like all web requests, these include your IP address and browser information.
- To see which pages are useful. Vercel Web Analytics gives us anonymous visit counts, without cookies.
- To remember your settings and count free edits. Your browser stores these on your computer.
- To sell and manage subscriptions. Apple sells and bills iPhone subscriptions. Superwall uses device and usage information to show the paywall and check your subscription status.
- To bill web subscriptions (coming soon). When web subscriptions launch, we'll use your email sign-in only for billing, and Stripe will process payments.
- To reply to you. If you email us, we use your address and message to respond.
What we don't do:
- We don't upload your web videos, transcripts or edits, so we can't view them, share them or use them to train AI models.
- We don't use advertising trackers, and our visit counts use no cookies and can't identify you.
- We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
If you're in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, our legal bases are providing the service you asked for, our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, and complying with the law.
Service providers
CutGPT relies on a few other companies. None of them receive your web videos, transcripts or edits.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Hugging Face | Hosts the speech model the web app downloads | Your IP address and browser information, but no video or audio |
| jsDelivr | Serves the ONNX Runtime files the web app needs | Your IP address and browser information, but no video or audio |
| Vercel | Hosts the website, keeps standard request logs and counts page visits (Vercel Web Analytics) | Your requests, which include your IP address and browser information. Visit counts are anonymous and use no cookies. |
| Apple | Sells and bills iPhone subscriptions through the App Store, and transcribes audio on its servers only if no on-device speech engine is available | Your App Store purchase, plus audio in chunks of under 50 seconds in that fallback case only |
| Superwall | Runs the paywall in the iPhone app | The device and usage information needed to show the paywall and check your subscription status |
| Stripe (when web subscriptions launch) | Will process web payments | The payment details you enter at checkout |
Your browser connects to Hugging Face and jsDelivr directly. Each provider handles what it receives under its own terms and privacy policy. Apple's privacy policy applies to audio sent for speech recognition.
Storage and retention
Local storage you control. Most of what CutGPT keeps is stored on your device, not by us:
- Web app: videos, transcripts and edits in IndexedDB, settings in localStorage, and the speech model in your browser's cache. Web edits aren't backed up, and they don't move to other computers or browsers.
- iPhone app: edits are stored on your iPhone. Finished videos you save to Photos stay in your library until you delete them there.
Deleting. In the web app, open Settings and choose Delete all edits, or clear the site's data in your browser. There's no backup, so deleted web edits can't be recovered. On iPhone, deleting the CutGPT app removes the edits it stored on your phone.
What others keep. Vercel keeps standard request logs and anonymous visit counts. Apple, Superwall, Hugging Face and jsDelivr keep what they receive under their own policies. If you email us, we keep your messages only as long as we need them to help you.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your edits. On the web, open Settings and choose Delete all edits, or clear the site's data. On iPhone, delete the app.
- Change permissions. Turn camera, microphone and Photos access on or off anytime in your iPhone's Settings. Without camera and microphone access, you can't record in the app. Without Photos access, CutGPT can't save edits to your library.
- Cancel your subscription. On iPhone, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Web subscriptions aren't available yet.
- Ask us. Email support@example.com with any question or request about your information.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, the UK or California), you may have the right to:
- Find out what personal information we have about you, and get a copy.
- Correct it or delete it.
- Object to or restrict how we use it, or withdraw consent you've given.
- Not be treated differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email support@example.com. We may need to confirm it's you, and we'll respond within the time the law requires. These rights have limits that depend on local law. Your videos and edits are stored on your device, so you can delete them yourself anytime. If you're in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
CutGPT isn't directed to children under 13, or under 16 where the law sets a higher age. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under those ages. If you think a child has given us personal information, email support@example.com and we'll delete it.
Security
Your videos and edits are stored on your device, so keeping them safe mostly depends on that device. Anyone who can get into your browser profile or your iPhone can open your edits. Use a passcode and keep your software up to date.
We take reasonable steps to protect the limited information we handle. No system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee it.
International users
The web app runs in your browser, so your videos, transcripts and edits stay on your computer wherever you are.
The limited information our service providers receive, such as request logs, App Store purchases and paywall data, may be processed in countries other than yours. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where the law requires it, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Changes
We may update this policy, for example when web subscriptions launch. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll let you know on the site or in the app before it takes effect.
