Browsers and computers
The web app works best in a recent desktop Chrome or Edge. Here's why speed can vary.
Updated
The CutGPT web app does all its work in your browser, on your computer. That includes transcribing your video, so your browser and computer affect how long an edit takes.
Supported browsers
- Chrome or Edge: a recent desktop version works best.
- Safari: version 26 or later.
The web app is made for desktop browsers. On iPhone, use the CutGPT app.
GPU or CPU
CutGPT transcribes with OpenAI's open-source Whisper model. If your browser supports WebGPU, Whisper runs on your computer's graphics processor (GPU). If it doesn't, Whisper runs on the CPU, which is slower.
The Transcription section of Settings tells you which one your browser is using.
The one-time download
The first time you make an edit, your browser downloads the speech model from Hugging Face and caches it. It's about 200 MB on the GPU, or about 80 MB on the CPU. Later edits use the cached copy.
For a smaller download and faster transcription, switch the speech model to Fast in Settings.
