An um or uh wasn't removed
Why a filler can slip through, and how to cut it or keep it.
Updated
CutGPT removes these fillers: um, umm, uh, uhh, uhm, erm, er, ah, ahh, eh, hmm, hm, mm, mmm and mhm.
How the web app finds them
The web app's speech model, Whisper, tends to leave ums out of the transcript. So CutGPT also looks for short stretches of voice, about 0.18 to 1.2 seconds long, that no transcribed word covers. It treats those as fillers.
Why one can slip through
- Remove ums and uhs is turned off in Settings.
- The sound is shorter or longer than that range.
- The transcript includes it in a nearby word, or writes it down as a different word.
Cut it by hand
Open your edit and click Edit. If you can see the filler in the transcript, click it to cut it.
If CutGPT cut a sound you wanted
Fillers that CutGPT found by sound show up in the transcript as a struck-through “um”. Because it goes by sound, it can sometimes catch a sound that wasn't a filler. Click the “um” to bring it back.
To keep fillers in new edits, turn off Remove ums and uhs. To apply the change to an edit you already made, click Reset to CutGPT's cut in the editor. This also undoes your hand edits.
